Why does SDI matter when HDMI is everywhere?
Because HDMI falls out. An SDI connector locks with a twist, carries a signal a hundred metres over coaxial cable, and does not drop the picture when a cable is nudged — which on a set with a monitor on a stand three metres from the camera is the whole difference. The title names 3G-SDI, and no other monitor on this shelf has it.
What does 1920 by 1200 buy over 1920 by 1080?
A hundred and twenty lines that are not the picture. A 16:9 image on a 16:10 panel leaves a band free for the tools — waveform, audio bars, markers — so the frame stays whole while they are on screen. On every 1080 monitor on this shelf, those overlays sit on top of the image.
Is publishing 8-bit a weakness?
It is candour. Every panel at this price is 8-bit; this is the one page that says so. Eight bits gives 256 levels per channel, enough to judge exposure and focus and not enough for final colour decisions — which is what the waveform and vectorscope are there for instead.
