The best camera backpacks for 2026

A camera backpack is bought on a number that is often missing. External dimensions describe the airline locker; internal dimensions describe whether a body with a lens attached stands upright in it, and only some makers publish them. Total volume in litres gives the scale but not the shape, and a bag split between a camera compartment and an ordinary one is described by two figures rather than one. Access is the design decision that shows up on every outing: a back-panel opening keeps the harness clean and needs the bag laid down, a front opening is quick and exposes everything at once, and a side hatch reaches one body without taking the bag off at all. Dividers are the interior, and hook-and-loop ones that stand up on their own hold a shape better than thin flaps. Then the things that are not photographic: a laptop sleeve with a stated maximum size, a tripod carry on the side or the centre and whether the strap is included, hip and sternum straps that matter as soon as the load passes a few kilos, and weather protection — either a fabric rating or an included rain cover, which are two different claims. Published weight matters because it is subtracted from what can be carried. We compare internal dimensions, volume, access design, divider system, laptop sleeve size, tripod carry, weather protection and empty weight.

The accessories that earn their place in the bag

  1. Besnfoto canvas camera shoulder bag with its flap open showing the foam interior

Besnfoto Shoulder bag, 17.8 by 13 by 15 cm inside, 16A canvas

A canvas shoulder bag with its interior published to the millimetre — 17.8 by 8.9 by 13 cm — for one mirrorless body and a lens, at 25 €.

    Internal dimensions
PUBLISHED, and in both directions: an interior of 7.0 by 3.5 by 5.1 inches — about 17.8 by 8.9 by 13 cm — inside an exterior of 7.4 by 4.3 by 5.9 inches, in the first bullet. Publishing both is what lets a buyer work out how much of the bag is padding, and here it is roughly a centimetre a side
    Volume
Not published. The interior figures give about 2 litres, and the page leaves the arithmetic alone. What the first bullet does instead is name what fits: a mirrorless camera and lens, a compact digital camera, or a small camera with a prime or zoom
    Access design
A waterproof DUCK-BILL ZIP into the camera compartment, in the third bullet, plus a hinged cover — and the same bullet notes the flap and zip stop the camera falling out and that the zip need not even be closed in use. A bag that can be left unzipped safely is a bag that gets opened one-handed
    Divider system
NONE itemised. The third bullet says the bag is filled throughout with PE foam so nothing rattles in the compact interior — which is protection without partitioning. For one body and one lens that is sufficient; for two lenses it is not
    Laptop sleeve size
NONE. At 17.8 cm across the interior, nothing larger than a phone fits, and the first bullet puts the phone in the front pocket
    Tripod carry
    NONE
    Weather protection
WATERPROOF 16A CANVAS, in the second bullet, described as durable and waterproof and credited with protecting the camera from unexpected weather. Canvas is heavier than nylon and takes a knock better; 16A is a yarn weight rather than a coating standard
    Empty weight
Not published — as on three of the four bags on this shelf

    • Internal AND external dimensions published, so the padding can be worked out
    • A waterproof duck-bill zip and a flap that works unzipped
    • A shoulder bag on a shelf called backpacks — it holds one body and one lens

Best for: One mirrorless body with a lens fitted, carried on a commute or a short walk rather than a day’s hike.

  2. Lowepro GearUp Creator Box Large II open showing its dividers and lenses

Lowepro GearUp Creator Box Large II, QuickDoor, 82 % recycled

A padded case that goes inside a rucksack and opens without coming out — one body, three lenses, and 82 per cent recycled materials.

    Internal dimensions
NOT PUBLISHED, and it is the specification this product most needs: a case designed to sit inside another bag has to be measured against that bag’s interior. What the first bullet gives instead is a capacity in equipment — a full-frame mirrorless body with a standard zoom attached, plus two more lenses
    Volume
    Not published
    Access design
THE QUICKDOOR SYSTEM, in the fourth bullet, and it is what this product is for: the case opens and the equipment comes out WHILE the case is still inside another bag. No unpacking to reach a lens — which is the whole friction of carrying a camera in a rucksack
    Divider system
FLEXIBLE COMPARTMENTS, in the first bullet, arranged for a full-frame mirrorless body with a standard zoom fitted and two additional lenses, with two further pockets for small items. It is the only itemised divider arrangement on this shelf
    Laptop sleeve size
NONE — and correctly so. The laptop travels in the outer bag; this case holds only the camera
    Tripod carry
    None
    Weather protection
NOT CLAIMED anywhere. A case that lives inside a rucksack is sheltered by the rucksack, so the omission is defensible — but it means this case alone offers no protection from rain
    Empty weight
Not published. On a case whose purpose is to go inside something else, the weight it adds is exactly what a buyer would want to know

    • QuickDoor access without taking the case out of the bag it lives in
    • Dividers itemised for a body with a zoom fitted plus two lenses
    • No internal dimensions published, on a case that must fit inside another bag

Best for: A rucksack or holdall that already exists, turned into a camera bag without buying a camera bag.

  3. K&F Concept camera bag opened from both sides showing its EVA dividers

K&F CONCEPT 27 by 17 by 10.5 cm inside, five ways to wear it

Twenty-seven by 17 by 10.5 cm inside, three compartments, removable dividers and straps underneath for a light tripod — worn five ways, at 41 €.

    Internal dimensions
PUBLISHED: 27 by 17 by 10.5 cm, in the first bullet, described as holding one body and two lenses. It is the largest published interior on this shelf and the figure that matters most — nearly five litres of usable space
    Volume
Not published. The dimensions give roughly 4.8 litres, and the page leaves it as equipment instead
    Access design
A DOUBLE-PULLER design opening from the LEFT AND THE RIGHT, in the third bullet — so the bag can be opened from whichever side the hand is on — with the two zip rings bucklable to one another as an ANTI-THEFT measure. That is a genuine feature on a shoulder bag worn in a crowd
    Divider system
The fullest on this shelf: professional EVA lens partitions that are REMOVABLE, over 10 mm of high-density EPE shock-absorbing padding, and THREE compartments in the fourth bullet — equipment, accessories and personal items kept separate so they do not disturb one another
    Laptop sleeve size
    None
    Tripod carry
YES — DOUBLE STRAPS on the underside, in the fourth bullet, for a light tripod or a table tripod. It is the only tripod provision on this shelf besides the 49 € TARION, and the page is honest about the limit: light tripods, not a full-height one
    Weather protection
Waterproof fabric, scratch-resistant and wear-resistant, in the second bullet
    Empty weight
    Not published
    Amazon reference
B0CV7HSBZL (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    6942052569415
    • Twenty-seven by 17 by 10.5 cm published, the largest interior on this shelf
    • Removable EVA dividers over 10 mm of EPE padding, in three compartments
    • No laptop sleeve, and no empty weight

Best for: One body and two lenses carried in a crowd, where the bag has to open from either side and the dividers should come out.

  4. TARION TR-L camera backpack with its side access open and rain cover beside it

TARION TR-L, 2 bodies and 5 lenses, 14-inch laptop, rain cover

Forty-nine euros for the only real rucksack here: two bodies, five lenses, a 14-inch laptop, side and rear access, and a rain cover in the box.

    Internal dimensions
NOT PUBLISHED — the one omission on an otherwise thorough page. Capacity is given as equipment instead, in the first bullet: two cameras and five lenses, in what it calls an efficient interior design that keeps the bag compact
    Volume
    Not published
    Access design
THE FULLEST ON THIS SHELF, in the second and third bullets: TWELVE compartments and pockets; SIDE ACCESS reaching the camera WITHOUT taking the bag off; and a THEFT-RESISTANT REAR opening into the main compartment — which is the arrangement that puts the zips against your own back when the bag is worn
    Divider system
Described as an efficient interior design and never itemised. For two bodies and five lenses the dividers are the whole architecture, and the page leaves them to the photographs
    Laptop sleeve size
14 INCHES, expandable, on the back — in the second bullet, and the ONLY laptop provision on this shelf. A rucksack that takes a laptop is a rucksack that replaces a second bag
    Tripod carry
Not explicitly named, which on a rucksack of this capacity is surprising. The 41 € K&F here publishes underside straps for a light tripod
    Weather protection
Two layers of answer, in the fifth bullet: water-repellent 1200D NYLON with very high tear and abrasion resistance, AND A WATERPROOF RAIN COVER INCLUDED. The cover is what separates water-repellent from waterproof, and it is in the box
    Empty weight
Not published, as on all four bags on this shelf
    Amazon reference
B09FL6XXSN (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    5060989790076
    • Two bodies and five lenses, with a 14-inch laptop sleeve — alone on this shelf
    • Side access without removing the bag, plus a theft-resistant rear opening
    • No internal dimensions and no volume published

Best for: A full kit and a laptop carried on foot and through an airport, where the camera has to come out without the bag coming off.
