Privacy

This page reads quickly because almost nothing is retained here.

Who is responsible

Data is controlled by Jean-Benoit Buisson, sole trader, 47 rue Vivienne, 75002 Paris, France. Email: [email protected]

Legal basis

Your IP address and your approximate country are processed as each page loads, and the basis for that is our legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: a page cannot reach you at all without an IP address, and without the country we cannot point a "Check price" button at the Amazon store that actually sells the lens or the tripod you are reading about. No interest beyond those two is pursued.

Who puts these pages online, and what crosses the border

The site is hosted by Railway Corporation (548 Market Street, PMB 68956, San Francisco, CA 94104, United States) and delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States). Both are established in the United States, so a transfer to that country happens whenever a page is opened. We keep and analyse no access logs of our own; where either provider retains logs for technical reasons, its own privacy policy governs them.

What we collect

Nothing that directly identifies you: no advertising cookie, no account to create, no comment field, no newsletter.

Site analytics. Only if you accept in the banner, this site uses Google Analytics 4, from Google, to count visits, page views and clicks to Amazon. Cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are then set for up to 13 months, and Google receives a technical identifier, the page viewed and information about your device; your IP address is not stored. This data is kept for 14 months and may be transferred to the United States under the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Without your consent, no Google script loads. Your choice is kept for 6 months in your browser, and you can change it at any time with the “Manage cookies” link at the foot of the page.

What the server is sent

Two parts of this site are put together for each request instead of being served as ready-made files: the affiliate redirect and the live price lookup. Both read your approximate country — from a header the CDN provides, or failing that from your browser's announced language — so a button opens the correct Amazon store in the correct currency. The country builds the response and is stored nowhere.

No web server can send an answer without an IP address reaching it first, and this one is no different. The address is never stored in a database, never used to build a profile, never handed on.

What shifts when you turn off towards Amazon

A "Check price" button takes you off this site, and from that point Amazon's own privacy policy is the one that applies. Amazon sets a cookie so that a resulting purchase is credited to us. Who you are, which lens or tripod you ordered and what you paid for it never reach us — only a count of orders, in aggregate, weeks afterwards.

Third parties

Each font is served from this site's own domain, so your browser makes no request of anyone else. A live price is collected by the server from a price-history service rather than by your browser, which is why that service never sees you.

Your rights

Your IP address is personal data, even though we record it in no database of ours. You therefore hold the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection set out in Articles 15 to 21 of the GDPR. In practice we keep no identifier that would let us trace your requests: under Article 11 of the GDPR we are not required to collect additional information for the sole purpose of identifying you. Write to us if you believe we hold something about you, and we will look into it.

The right to bring a complaint before a supervisory authority applies whatever happens (Article 77 GDPR). The publisher is established in France, so that authority is the CNIL — Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, France. A reader resident in another member state may equally approach the authority of their own country.
