The first specification on this shelf is not photographic. Take-off weight in grams places a drone into a regulatory class, and the thresholds — along with registration, remote identification and where a flight is allowed at all — are set by the aviation authority of the country you are standing in, not by the manufacturer. Makers publish the weight and often the class marking; what the class then requires is a matter for the local regulator and changes without reference to the product. With that settled, the camera: sensor size, the video resolutions and frame rates offered together, whether the aperture is fixed or adjustable, and whether a raw stills format is available. Flight time is a claim measured in still air at a steady speed, and wind, cold and hovering all take from it. Transmission range is likewise a figure from open ground with line of sight, and it describes the video link rather than a permission to fly that far. Obstacle sensing is described by the directions covered — forward, backward, downward, lateral, upward — and a drone sensing in fewer directions is not protected in the others. Then the gimbal axes, the folded dimensions that decide whether it travels, and what a bundle actually contains in batteries.
