The best reflectors and diffusers for 2026

These are the cheapest way to change light and the hardest to use without a second pair of hands. The diameter decides the softness: a larger surface close to a subject wraps, a small one at a distance behaves like another hard source, and the useful size follows what is being lit rather than what fits the boot of a car. Shape follows the same logic — round for a face, oval or rectangular for a standing figure. Most are sold as a set of surfaces on one collapsible frame: white for a neutral fill, silver for a brighter and more specular return, gold for a warm one, black to take light away rather than add it, and a translucent centre that becomes a diffuser when the sleeve is removed and the disc is held between a source and a subject. Folded size is the figure that decides whether it travels, since a collapsible disc folds to roughly a third of its open diameter. Then the fabric and the frame: a sprung steel hoop is what fails first, and a listing that names the fabric weight is telling you something a photograph cannot. Finally, a holder, because a disc that needs a hand is a disc that needs an assistant. We compare diameter, shape, surfaces supplied, frame construction, folded size, fabric described and holder or bracket compatibility.

The accessories that earn their place in the bag

  1. Retoo five-in-one reflector disc showing its gold surface, with its zipped case

Retoo 5-in-1, 60 cm, folds to about 20 cm

Eight euros for a 60 cm five-in-one disc that folds to about 20 cm — and a page whose last bullet explains how to flatten the creases its own packing causes.

    Diameter
60 cm, in the title and the second bullet, which names portraits, face lighting, smaller products and detail work as what it suits. The intro above ties diameter to softness: a larger surface close to a subject wraps, a small one at a distance behaves like another hard source. Sixty centimetres is the smallest here and is a face-sized tool
    Shape
Round, in the second bullet. The intro above matches shape to subject — round for a face, oval or rectangular for a standing figure — and a 60 cm circle is squarely in the first case
    Surfaces supplied
Five, each with its job named in the third bullet: white reflects softly, silver more strongly and with more contrast, gold gives a warmer cast, black reduces unwanted spill, and the translucent centre softens hard light when placed between source and subject. It is the fullest explanation of the five surfaces on this shelf
    Frame construction
A sprung hoop, described by how it folds rather than by its material: the fourth bullet says a twisting movement collapses it to about 20 cm, and warns that the frame must be twisted fully into three small rings before it goes into the case. No steel or fibreglass is named
    Folded size
About 20 cm, in the fourth bullet — a third of the open diameter, exactly the ratio the intro above describes. It is the smallest packed figure on this shelf
    Fabric described
By colour and behaviour rather than by weight. No gram figure, no denier, and no reflectivity percentage — where two other discs here claim 90 per cent
    Holder or bracket compatibility
Not published. No handle, no clamp and no bracket is named, which the intro above flags as the difference between a disc that needs an assistant and one that does not. The 29 € K&F on this shelf has two handles sewn on

    • Five surfaces with the purpose of each spelled out, more fully than anywhere else on this shelf
    • Folds to about 20 cm, the smallest packed size here, with a case included
    • No handle, grip or bracket, so it needs a second pair of hands outdoors

Best for: Portraits and close product work where a face-sized disc is enough, and where 20 cm in the bag matters more than a handle.

  2. K&F Concept five-in-one reflector with the two handles sewn along its edge

K&F CONCEPT 5-in-1, 80 cm, two handles, folds to 27 cm

Twenty-nine euros for an 80 cm disc with two handles sewn on, 90 per cent reflectivity published and a 27 cm folded size — and a page that explains its surfaces by what each does to colour temperature.

    Diameter
80 cm, in the title. The fourth bullet calls it 32 inches in its heading and then 80 cm or 35 inches in its text — two different conversions of the same disc in one bullet, and 80 cm is 31.5 inches. The intro above ties diameter to how the light wraps, and 80 cm covers a head and shoulders generously or one half of a standing figure
    Shape
Round, named in the last bullet. The intro above matches round to a face; the 33 € Selens on this shelf is the oval, for a whole standing figure
    Surfaces supplied
Five, and this page is the only one on the shelf to explain them in colour temperature: gold reflects light of low colour temperature to restore a skin tone, silver light of high colour temperature to correct one, white does not affect colour temperature at all, black blocks and absorbs surplus light, and the translucent centre works as a diffuser. The covers turn over or come off
    Frame construction
Not named. The third bullet describes a multi-layer textile of polyester fibre with a highly reflective coating — that is the fabric, not the hoop. Only the 33 € Selens on this shelf says what its frame is made of
    Folded size
27 cm, in the second bullet, which also says it fits into a small storage bag. From 80 cm that is a third, the same ratio as the 8 € Retoo folding 60 cm into 20
    Fabric described
Multi-layer polyester fibre with a high-reflectivity coating, and 90 per cent reflectivity claimed in the third bullet — a figure two of the four discs here publish. No weight and no denier
    Holder or bracket compatibility
Both a holder and a hand: the second bullet gives two handles sewn to the side and says it works without a helper, and the last bullet says the disc suits standard sizes and a variety of reflector holders. That bullet also argues that a hanging reflector holds up better outdoors than a standing one, because the wind does not take it

    EAN
    6942052556644
    • Two handles sewn to the edge, so one person can hold and aim it
    • Ninety per cent reflectivity published, and 27 cm folded from 80
    • The fourth bullet calls the same disc 32 inches and 35 inches in consecutive sentences

Best for: Working alone outdoors, where the disc has to be held and aimed by the same hand that is not holding the camera.

  3. NEEWER RF-110 five-in-one reflector unfolded beside its carry bag

NEEWER 5-in-1, 110 cm, four ways to hold it

One hundred and ten centimetres for 32 €, in high-reflectivity nylon, with a sewn-in loop and three other ways to hold it — and no folded size anywhere on the page.

    Diameter
110 cm, or 43 inches, in the title. That is a surface that covers a standing figure from the waist up, and the intro above explains why the size follows the subject: a disc held close and wide wraps the light, a small one at a distance is only another hard source
    Shape
Round. A circle of 110 cm behaves differently outdoors from a 60 cm one — it catches wind like a sail, which is the practical limit on a disc this wide
    Surfaces supplied
Five, in the first bullet: a translucent panel for diffusion inside a reversible sleeve with four colour effects — gold for warm fills, silver for cool clear fills, white for soft neutral fills, black for eliminating excessive reflections. The last bullet itemises it as one diffusion panel plus one four-sided sleeve
    Frame construction
Not named. The second bullet describes high-reflectivity nylon, which is the fabric; the hoop is never mentioned
    Folded size
NOT PUBLISHED. The fourth bullet says only that the reflector folds easily into the shape of a disc and comes with a carry bag. Three of the four discs on this shelf publish a packed figure — 20 cm, 27 cm, 40 cm — and this is the one that does not, on the widest disc of the four
    Fabric described
High-reflectivity nylon, in the second bullet, credited with even scattering and reflection whether the source is a flash, a monolight, a continuous LED or the sun. No percentage, where the 29 € K&F and the 33 € Selens both claim 90 per cent
    Holder or bracket compatibility
The fullest answer on the shelf, in the third bullet: mount it on a standard holder, hang it from a crossbar, hook it by the built-in loop, or hold it in your hands. The loop is the part that matters — it is sewn in, and it lets a light stand do the holding

B002ZIMEMW (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    0701413499497
    • One hundred and ten centimetres, enough to light a standing figure from the waist up
    • Four ways to support it, including a built-in loop and a standard holder
    • No folded size published, on the widest disc of the four here

Best for: A disc that will spend most of its life on a stand or a crossbar rather than in a hand, lighting whole figures rather than faces.

  4. Selens oval five-in-one reflector showing its three handles and gold surface

Selens 5-in-1 oval, 80 by 120 cm, three handles, steel frame

An oval of 80 by 120 cm on a steel frame, three handles, folding to 40 cm, for 33 € — and a durability claim of 80 per cent measured against a product it never names.

    Diameter
Not a diameter: 80 by 120 cm, or 31.5 by 47.2 inches, in the title. The long axis is longer than the 110 cm NEEWER on this shelf and the short one is the same as the 80 cm K&F — one disc doing both jobs depending on which way it is turned
    Shape
OVAL, and it is the only one on this shelf. The intro above matches shape to subject: round for a face, oval or rectangular for a standing figure. Turned upright an oval covers a person head to hip; turned flat it fills a table
    Surfaces supplied
Five, with the effect of each in the first bullet: silver for contrast and raised highlights, gold for warm glowing skin tones, black to block unwanted light, white for a neutral colour temperature, translucent for a softer look without shadows
    Frame construction
A stable STEEL frame, in the fourth bullet — the only frame material named anywhere on this shelf. Steel springs back reliably and adds weight, and no weight figure is published to say how much
    Folded size
40 cm, in the third bullet, with a portable zipped case. From a 120 cm long axis that is a third, the ratio the intro above describes and the same one the 8 € Retoo and the 29 € K&F follow
    Fabric described
Multiple high-quality layers with a raised-grain design, in the fifth bullet, claiming up to 90 per cent reflectivity and a life almost 80 per cent longer than a normal reflector. The second figure has no comparison product behind it: "a normal reflector" is not a measurement
    Holder or bracket compatibility
THREE handles, in the second bullet, said to allow one-handed operation. No bracket, holder or stand fitting is mentioned — where the 32 € NEEWER on this shelf lists four supports including a sewn-in loop. This is a disc designed to be held
    Amazon reference
B08QRLFQ1M (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    6923600473934
    • An oval of 80 by 120 cm, the shape the intro above recommends for a standing figure
    • Three handles and a steel frame — the only frame material named on this shelf
    • A life "almost 80 per cent longer than a normal reflector" names no product to compare with

Best for: Standing portraits where the reflector is held by one person throughout, and where an oval covers more of the subject than a circle of the same width.
