The best camera rain covers for 2026

A rain cover keeps water off a camera that is being used rather than carried, which is a harder problem than a bag: the lens must see out, the eye must see in, and at least one hand has to work the controls. Sizing is by lens length, and makers publish the maximum barrel the sleeve accommodates — a cover cut for a standard zoom will not close over a long telephoto, and one cut for a telephoto flaps around a small body. The eyepiece opening is the second decision and separates two designs: a clear panel that lets a rear screen be read at arm's length, or a sealed collar that clamps around the viewfinder for a tighter seal and no screen. Hand access is usually a pair of sleeves, sometimes with elasticated cuffs, and a cover with one sleeve is a cover for one hand.
