Geared, not gripped

Every other head in this catalogue is released and caught. This one is turned. A worm drive moves the camera as far as the knob travels and holds it there — no slump, no last-moment correction, no hunting for the framing that was almost right. For a facade that has to sit square, that is the entire purchase.

Five kilograms, which is the figure that matches the shelf next door

The smallest rating of the three heads here, and the only one within reach of the tripods in this catalogue, which top out at 6.35 kg. A rating of 15 kg on a head above a 6 kg tripod changes nothing; 5 kg on a solid support is a working pair.

The plate, and the commitment behind it

The 410 plate is in the box, and it is Manfrotto’s own. Everything clamped afterwards has to be the same plate — where the head two places down takes the Arca dovetail that most third-party gear is cut for.
