A quarter-inch thread on a five-kilogram column

The two figures do not describe the same stand. Five kilograms is a studio rating; a 1/4 inch screw is what a camera or a small flash uses. Anything with a spigot receiver — a softbox bracket, a studio head — expects the 16 mm stud this page never mentions.

Eighty-seven centimetres at its lowest

The highest minimum on this shelf by a wide margin. For a key light on a standing face it is irrelevant; for anything lit from below or across a table it is the limit that will be felt first.
