Two parts, and the camera keeps one

The screw plate stays on the action camera. Changing from a tripod to a grip is a slide and a click rather than a thread, and that is the whole reason this exists.

A magnet that aligns, a lock that holds

The second bullet separates the two: the sliding lock is what keeps it closed. A magnetic mount that relied on the magnet would let go under a knock.

Its own shape, and nothing else
