The word “adapter” covers two objects here. Eleven to 23 € buys a hollow ring that fits a filter to the front of a lens. Ninety-five euros buys the piece that lets a lens from one system sit on a body from another.

Why nothing optical is inside

EF sits further from the sensor than RF, so the adapter restores a distance rather than correcting one. Glass would only be needed adapting the other way.

Two caps, and the reason there are two

An adapter that lives on the body leaves the original body cap and rear lens cap fitting nothing. The fifth bullet supplies both replacements.
