Not necessarily, and the confusion is worth undoing: a wider maximum aperture buys light, which buys shutter speed, which prevents blur. That is a different thing from resolving finer detail.
Two properties get bundled under one word. Separating them makes the purchase decision straightforward.
What a wide aperture actually buys
Light, and therefore shutter speed, and therefore freedom from blur. The gap between a kit zoom’s f/6.3 at the long end and a prime’s f/1.8 is more than three stops — the difference between 1/30 s and 1/250 s in the same room.
What resolution is
How finely the lens separates detail. It varies across the frame and across the aperture range, it is best a stop or two from maximum on most designs, and no listing here publishes it in comparable form.
Why the distinction matters when buying
If your frames are blurred, you need light: a wider aperture, or more of it in the room, or a support. If your frames are steady and simply lack bite, the aperture figure will not tell you which lens is better — and nothing on the listing will either.
The test that settles it for your own lenses
The same frame at three apertures on a tripod, with a remote release. It costs nothing, and it answers the one question that no specification sheet on this shelf answers.

Why do fast lenses have a reputation for sharpness then?
Partly because they are usually built to a higher standard at a higher price, and partly because the pictures they allow are sharper — a frame at 1/250 s beats the same frame at 1/60 s regardless of the glass. The reputation mixes a real cause with a coincidence, and only one of the two is about resolution.
Is a lens sharpest wide open?
Rarely. Most lenses improve for a stop or two past their maximum and then decline as diffraction takes over. Every lens has a best range and no maker publishes it in a form two lenses can be compared on, which is why the useful test is your own frames at two or three apertures.
