The rod base is what this cage is for. A follow focus, a matte box, a lens support: all three clamp to two parallel rods at the cinema spacing, and none of them can attach to a cage that only has threads. The 60 € Hersmay beside it has five cold shoes and no rods.

Universal, with what that implies

A clamp and a screw instead of machined pockets. It will hold the next camera as well as this one, and it holds none of them as precisely as a cage cut for a single body — the hub above calls the model list the specification, and this page offers a list of examples instead.

Two grips and a silicone handle

Held at the sides for walking shots, held on top for low angles. On a universal cage the handles are the reason to have a cage at all, since the fit is not doing the work.

Tool-free, and what that quietly solves

The knurled screw takes the camera out in seconds. Neither cage here says whether the battery door opens in place — this one at least makes getting the camera out quick enough that it hardly matters.

What neither cage provides

No cable clamp on either page. An HDMI lead to a monitor hangs on its own socket, and the strain falls where the solder is.
