The RX100 VII’s 1.0-type stacked sensor is the reason it costs what it does. It is far larger than the 1/2.3-inch sensors used by the travel zooms on this shelf, and stacked construction makes it fast.
Sony quotes 0.02-second autofocus, 357 phase-detect points, real-time tracking and eye AF. It shoots up to 20 frames per second without viewfinder blackout. Those are figures you would expect from a sports camera.
The ZEISS zoom covers 24 to 200 mm equivalent. Its aperture runs from f/2.8 at the wide end to f/4.5 at the long end, which is bright for a lens this compact.
