The FZ45 takes two AA cells. That is its strongest argument: no charger to pack, no proprietary battery to replace. For a child’s camera or a camping trip, it removes a common reason a camera stops working.
The lens starts at a 27 mm-equivalent wide angle and zooms 4×. It covers group photos and moderate close-ups, not distant wildlife.
The 1/2.3-inch, 16 MP sensor is fine outdoors. Indoors and at night it struggles, and the stabilization is digital rather than optical, so hold it steady.
Amazon.com sold and shipped it at about $110. That is the price of a simple, dependable camera, not of an upgrade over a good phone.
