RaLeno

Panels, tents and softbox kits, 26 € to 66 €

Where it turns up

LED video lights, light tents and softboxes, between 26 € and 66 €.

Lumens, where everybody else counts beads

The light tent publishes 2100 lumens at 5500 K with a colour rendering index above 97 — and it is the only tent on that shelf to publish an output at all. The others give bead counts, which say nothing: a bead can be any power.

Flicker-free dimming, on direct current

Zero to a hundred per cent on smoothed DC rather than rapid switching, which is what puts banding across a photograph at a fast shutter speed and pulses across video. It is the kind of claim that only appears where the maker has thought about it.

Where the softbox kit is honest

A complete two-light set at 66 € with stands, lamps, spare diffusers and a bag — and a closing note, in its own parenthesis, that the lamps do not dim. The output is set by moving the stand, which changes the softness at the same time.
