The HF G70 pairs a 4K sensor with a 20× optical zoom and Canon’s DIGIC DV6 processor. For recitals, sermons and sports from the stands, a long optical zoom matters more than anything else, and it is what phones and action cameras lack.
UVC streaming sends HD video straight to a computer over USB. Two SD slots allow longer recordings or a backup copy. The on-screen display can record the date, time and timecode into the file.
At 1/2.3 inch, the sensor is about the size used in compact cameras. That is the price of a 20× lens in a small body. In a dim hall, expect noise before you would with a larger-sensor camera.
Amazon.com sold and shipped it at about $1,299 when we read the listing. That is the most expensive camcorder here, and the only one with optical zoom on this scale.
