The bottom line Two diffusion layers, an included grid, a one-second frame, 905 g and a published packed size make this the most completely specified box on the shelf at 70 €. It gives no depth, it is 80 cm long folded, and its strip shape is a shaping tool rather than a general fill.

The only weight and the only packed size on this shelf. Six other pages describe their boxes without measuring them. For a modifier that is carried to a location and back, these are the two figures that decide whether it comes along.

A buckle instead of rods

Rods threaded into a speed ring are why softboxes stay assembled in corners. A side-buckle frame collapses like an umbrella, and the buying advice for this shelf says to pay for exactly that if the box will move.

A strip, not a rectangle

What is a strip box for?

Edges. The hub above describes the catchlight each shape leaves: a strip gives a long narrow highlight, which is what defines a shoulder, an arm or the side of a bottle. Used frontally it behaves like a rectangle; turned vertically beside a subject it becomes a rim light. At 60 by 90 cm this one is wide enough to do both.

Why do two diffusion layers matter?

They trade light for smoothness. An inner baffle catches the hotspot directly in front of the tube before it reaches the front face, so the emitting surface is evenly bright rather than brightest in the middle — at the cost of roughly a stop. Both are removable here, which means three configurations rather than one, and the second bullet names the contrast options as the point.

Is one second realistic?

The first bullet claims a side-buckle design giving one-second opening and closing. Whether it is one second or five, the mechanism is the important part: a buckle frame collapses without unthreading rods from a speed ring, which is the operation that makes people leave a softbox permanently assembled — or permanently in its bag.
