NEEWER RF1-S Macro Ring Flash (Sony) review

A TTL ring flash for Sony macro work, with two separately controlled tubes, focus-assist lamps and eight adapter rings from 49 to 77 mm, for about $60.

Light for macro

A ring flash mounts around the lens, lighting close subjects evenly. The RF1-S does it with Sony TTL.

Shaping the light

Two tubes can be set independently to add shadow on one side. Gels add color.

Practical extras

Two focus-assist lamps help in dim light, and eight adapter rings fit most lenses.

Pairing

It suits the Sony FE 90mm macro on our macro shelf.

What people ask before they commit

Will it fit my lens?

NEEWER includes adapter rings for 49, 52, 55, 58, 62, 67, 72 and 77 mm filter threads. Check your lens’s filter size.

Why two tubes?

Running one tube brighter than the other adds direction and modeling to an otherwise flat ring light.

Does it work on Canon?

This RF1-S version is for Sony. NEEWER sells other versions.
