GODOX TT520II with RT Trigger review

An older-generation manual flash sold with a 433 MHz trigger, a diffuser and color filters, for about $51. Its radio is not part of Godox’s 2.4 GHz X system.

Everything in one box

The TT520II comes with an RT trigger, a diffuser, color filters, a stand and a bag.

An older radio

Its 433 MHz system predates Godox’s 2.4 GHz X system and cannot talk to it. If you plan to build a Godox kit, the TT600 is the better starting point.

Manual control

Eight power steps from 1/128 to full.

Who it suits

A single off-camera flash for a beginner who will not expand the setup.

What people ask before they commit

Will it work with a Godox X2T trigger?

No. Its radio is 433 MHz with the RT transmitter. Godox’s X system uses 2.4 GHz.

Is it TTL?

No. It offers manual, S1 and S2 modes. A manual flash fires at the power you set on it. The camera does not adjust it, so you set the exposure yourself with power, aperture and ISO.

What is GN33?

A guide number depends on the ISO and the coverage the maker chose when measuring it. It cannot be converted into watt-seconds, and neither figure is the light that reaches the subject.

Our score

8.1/ 10

A complete starter kit, but a dead end for growth. The TT600 is the better buy for most.
